When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? (Psalm 8:3-4 ESV)
O – This psalm was written by David for the Israelites to sing; however, it was written in pretty general terms and can therefore include all humanity. The entire hymn is a hymn of praise. Beginning and ending with the majesty of the name of the Lord.
A – It is amazing to me to look at the Creation of our great Creator. Here the Psalmist mention the heavens, the works of God’s fingers, the moon and stars that God set in place. Everything about Creation no matter how big or how small points to the majesty and power of our Creator. Which then brings us to the question that the Psalmist asks – “what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” What does it mean to be mindful of something? Mindful means to be attentive, aware, or careful. So this verse could read, “What is man that you are attentive to him? or Aware of him?” God cares! He cares about you! He cares about me! The big things, the little things, everything. He is aware, attentive and He cares! Praise the Lord.
P – Heavenly Father, thanks for caring! Thank you for caring about the details in my life, no matter how small they seem. Help me to always be aware of your moving in my life and always to give you the glory for all that happens. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
